Hawk also began hosting his long-running Demolition Radio show on SiriusXM in 2004 and launched the RIDE Channel on YouTube in 2011. Although the tour petered out by the end of the decade, Hawk announced he was reviving the Boom Boom HuckJam in 2019. Video Games, Tour and Screen Appearancesīesides his skateboarding business, Hawk launched a successful line of video games, skateboarding videos and an extreme sports tour called Tony Hawk's Boom Boom HuckJam, which he started in 2002. In his 17-year professional career, he won more than 70 skateboarding contests, including gold medals at the 19 X Games. Hawk was the first to successfully complete this move in competition at the 1999 X Games. He has created amazing tricks, including the "900." This trick calls for the skater to rotate 900 degrees -about two and a half turns - in mid-air. His ability to perform impressive stunts fueled Hawk's popularity. He landed back in the spotlight and became one of the best-known skateboarders in the world. Hawk competed in the first Extreme Games - later simply called the X Games - in 1995. Their company struggled until the rise of extreme sports generated new interest in skateboarding. As a result, in 1992, he co-founded a skateboarding company, Birdhouse, with fellow pro Per Welinder. He had already spent much of his early winnings and almost went bankrupt. At this time, the popularity of skateboarding was waning, as were his earnings. However, all of his talent and success could not prevent Hawk from experiencing some rough times in the early 1990s. Hawk was considered one of the top skateboarders in the world by the time he was 16 years old. Two years later, he became a professional skateboarder. By age 12, he got his first sponsor, Dogtown skateboards. It didn't take long for Hawk to excel at skateboarding. That gift changed his life and gave him an outlet for all of his energy. As a kid, Hawk was intelligent, high-strung, and hyperactive - a combination his mother once described as "challenging." When he was nine, he received a skateboard from his older brother. Hawk was born on May 12, 1968, in San Diego, California. Through the Tony Hawk Foundation, he provides grants and technical assistance for new parks, especially in low-income areas. Hawk started his own skateboarding company, Birdhouse, and also has a successful line of video games and skateboarding videos. Liquid Death says a portion of proceeds from the collaboration will go towards the anti-plastic nonprofit 5 Gyres, and Tony Hawk’s The Skatepark Project.Tony Hawk was one of the top skateboarders in the world by the time he was 16, and in his 17-year career, he won more than 70 skateboarding contests. Only 100 boards were made, making this an extremely exclusive, limited-edition release. The Tony Hawk x Liquid Death skateboard retails for $500. And I take pride in knowing that organizations fighting plastic pollution and creating skate parks worldwide will be supported through our efforts.” “This collaboration is taking those connections to a new level, as I have literally put my blood (and soul?) into these decks. “I am deeply thankful to have a connection with my fans, and I appreciate how Liquid Death connects with theirs,” the athlete and entrepreneur says, in a release. But just in case, a notary was brought on site for the process, and each deck also has a letter of authenticity signed by Hawk himself. There are other nods to Hawk on the skateboard as well: the “executioner” character is seen holding a hawk skull - a nod to Hawk and his classic Birdhouse deck designs - and the skater’s name is printed at the top next to the campaign tagline, “Murder Your Thirst.”ĭespite what the accompanying photo would have you believe, Liquid Death says Hawk was a willing participant in the project. The very nice security guard guided us to our site and told us of the amenities then left us to set up. We pulled in at approximately 8:30 Friday night. It is a pretty campground, along the lake. This is our second visit to Flamingo Lake. We will definitely return to enjoy a nice, shady lakefront site in the future! It's very family and dog-friendly and they have Bingo and live music throughout the week. Overall, I would highly recommend this RV Resort. Try to avoid going when school lets out there are a couple of school zones to drive through. For groceries, there is a Publix within 4 miles. There is also a meat market with produce and a seafood vendor within a few miles. There is a Home Depot and Walmart within a mile or two. The store has some essential RV accessories, a pretty good selection of snacks and toiletries. There is a small dog park along the I295 side, but it's not shaded so in the summer time it may be too hot. Sites 40-49 are the best if you want a shady, lakefront site. I recommend staying away from sites 177-264 which are on the I295 side. Also, it's just off I295 so you will also hear some road noise. Tips: The resort is near the airport and close enough to the base that you will get some air traffic noise. The sites are level and nicely maintained. All the people we encountered were friendly. There are two swimming areas and a small cafe at one of them along with cute little thatch roof tables/chairs and nice, sandy beaches. We walked around the lake a couple of times each day, stopping at lakeside swings to enjoy the water and wildlife. This just gave us more time to walk, enjoy the outdoors and play cards. They also have cable, but you still don't get many channels. They offer upgraded wifi, but we opted to just stay as disconnected as possible, which allowed us to fully enjoy the outdoors. The staff was very accommodating with regard to relocating us and the cost of our stay. Site #34 was a bit cramped, it was very shady and close to the bath house and check-in. It was inconvenient, but we hadn't setup our patio or the inside of the TT. Had the weather been cooler, we could have survived with no AC and kept the fridge cold on propane and stayed put. After a couple of hours, they deemed it wasn't going to get fixed so they relocated us to site #34, several sites down from #43 and not lakefront. So we setup our rig, got it leveled out and waited. They had guys actively working the issue. When we arrived, they told us about the power outage but were pretty confident that it would be fixed within a few hours. The bad news: the power was out for all the sites along this stretch of lakefront. The good news: the site I booked was the site we got. We booked site #43, which is a nicely shaded, lakefront site. Management did not even respond to my e-mail reporting the situation. Spend your money elsewhere.not worth the harassment. Made me feel like an invader to their little RV party. Needless to say, the actions by these park Karen's was unnerving and unnecessary. Shortly thereafter, a staff golf cart followed. One of the park guests started taking my picture and followed me in their vehicle. I took a picture of the number to call in case the gate was locked when I returned. On Saturday (5/22), I was walking to the main street to catch an UBER ride to go out for the evening and noticed the security gate. Thank goodness I was able to empty the water from both tanks and not allow any of the flies into my rig. I left my tank values closed until I was ready to dump. When I went to do my onsite tank dump on Sunday (5/23) and open the site sewer cap to attach my hose, 1000's of sewer flies came out and swarmed me. I was disappointed when I went to pull in that is was an older, unpaved site. When I arrived at Flamingo Lake RV Resort on Friday (5/21), I was greeted by a staff person that had me sign paperwork and directed to me to Site 237. All Cubase paid versions are more expensive than the REAPER license.whereas with Cubase, you can choose different limited versions for every budget. With REAPER, you can only buy a license.REAPER is more lightweight and less prone to crashing.REAPER comes with only a few basic plugins, whereas Cubase full versions come with multiple good plugins.REAPER has a faster track editor, whereas Cubase is superior in MIDI editing.REAPER is customizable in every way, whereas you get what you see with Cubase. The main differences between Reaper vs Cubase are: Main Differences Between Reaper vs Cubase You don’t need to be tech-savvy to understand the differences, as I’ll continue my comparison with real-life examples that might apply to you. REAPER, on the hand, might be plain at first, but much cheaper, and with some work in customizing, it goes farther than Cubase.īefore getting into specific use cases, you can relate to, I’d like to give a general overview of the differences between Reaper and Cubase. My Bottom line up-frontĬhoosing the right DAW has much to do with your production style, genre, and the extent to which you use the software.Ĭubase is professional from the start but can be expensive and limiting if you are into making all the small details work for you. Cubase compared head to head, explain why I switched and which software might work best for you without getting too technical. I recently decided to go from the legacy Cubase to the much cheaper open-source REAPER. Since then, big studios to bedroom musicians have been reviewing all new alternatives, to the point where companies have improved their software so much as to tick most boxes for producers. The battle of the DAWs has been going on since the grandfather of DAWs, Cubase, got its first rival. “A pull-to-pressure tool might overset the fastener into the material. “If you’re fastening soft plastic, a spin-pull tool might be better,” says Lanni. It works the same as the spin-pull tool, but instead of pulling to a set distance, it pulls to a set pressure. Once the fastener is set, the air motor re-engages to back the mandrel out of the nut.Ī third option is the “pull-to-pressure” tool. When the fastener is inserted into the workpiece, hydropneumatic pressure is applied to pull back the mandrel a set distance. As with the spin-spin tool, an air motor threads the mandrel into the nut. Thus, rivet nuts can be fitted at any stage in the production process.Īn upgrade from the spin-spin tool is the “spin-pull” tool. No additional finishing is required after setting, even with coated or painted components. Once the rivet nut is clinched securely in place, the mandrel spins in the opposite direction, unthreading itself from the nut and leaving the fastener’s internal threads intact. The bulge presses against the rear of the panel, creating a clamping force that tightly grips the sheet. When the tool is actuated, the mandrel spins rapidly and powerfully, pulling the threaded portion of the rivet nut’s shank toward the blind side of the workpiece and forming a bulge around the unthreaded portion. The fastener is then inserted into a hole in the workpiece. The fastener is threaded onto a mandrel at the end of the tool. The simplest power tool for installing rivet nuts is the pneumatic “spin-spin” tool. They can also be mounted to six-axis robots. The latter can be handheld or mounted to a linear actuator for fully or semiautomatic operation. The former are similar to tools for installing blind rivets. Rivet nuts can be installed with hand tools or, more commonly, power tools. The closed end thus prevents the ingress of water and dust into the interior of the assembly. The latter are ideal for applications, such as attachment points on vehicle exteriors, in which the mating screw will not necessarily be present. Rivet nuts are also offered in open- and closed-end versions. For some manufacturers…it’s cheaper to make a round hole than a hex-shaped hole.” “The downside of a hex-shaped fastener is that it requires a hex-shaped hole. “With a hex-shaped fastener, you don’t have that issue. “If they’re not set just right, round rivet nuts can spin in the hole at high torque levels,” explains Lanni. Such variations are all designed to do one thing: keep the fastener from turning in the hole, particularly in softer materials, such as aluminum and plastic. The standard rivet nut is cylindrical with a smooth surface, but variations include splined, square and hexagonal bodies. Rivet nuts also come in many body styles. The wedges aren’t going to be very effective on steel parts.” “However, rivet nuts are annealed, so they’re relatively soft. “The wedge head is great for soft materials like plastic, fiberglass and aluminum,” says Kull. Wedges or knurls underneath the head are designed to bite into the mating material and prevent the fastener from turning in the hole. Countersunk and low-profile heads ensure flush or near-flush installation. A thick flange can act as a spacer and provide some extra push-out strength. It’s also possible to apply a sealant beneath the flange for weatherproof applications. This reinforces the hole and prevents push-through. A wide front-side flange provides a large load-bearing surface. Rivet nuts are available with a variety of head styles. A 1.45-inch long rivet nut has a grip range of 0.35 to 0.5 inch. For example, a 0.42-inch long SpinTite rivet nut from PennEngineering offers a grip range of 0.02 to 0.08 inch. A single fastener size can typically accommodate a wide grip range. CHARGE AT HOME!
